Grammar Journal: Lose the ‘loose’

Week of June 15th, 2009-

A horrifyingly high-frequency occurrence of the substitution of ‘loose’ for ‘lose.’ Twitter feed, several blog posts, and even one article in a semi-major media publication.

WHY? Is it really confusing? Have I been wrong all these years? Is the correct way to spell the word ‘lose’ (as in, “I’m going to lose my mind if I see this happen again”) actually ‘loose?’

Now, for those of us who have been learning it since age 5… there’s just no excuse. It’s time to lose the ‘loose.’
